The Spring Workers’ Conference is an Official District Conference, hence an obligatory event for pastors and commissioned ministers serving in congregations and parishes. Fees should be paid by your congregation. Every pastor must submit a registration regardless of attendance. If you are unable to attend, you must submit an official excuse. (LCMS Bylaw 4.8.2)
A housing package is available at Camp Io-Dis-E-Ca for an additional $33 which includes breakfast. Rooms have been reserved at a nearby hotel for $99. Please call in to make your reservation by March 28 and ask for the Lutheran Ministers Group.

The 2024 Spring Workers’ Conference is scheduled for April 29-30, 2024 at Camp Io-Dis-E-Ca in Solon, IA. Our presenter this year will be Rev. Fr. Mark Braden, and he will be presenting on The History, Development, and Conduct of the Divine Service. This presentation will look at the earliest forms of the Divine Service, considering the sources and development of the Western Rite, culminating in the ceremony, rubric and rite of the Lutheran Common Service.
Fr. Mark P. Braden serves his Lord Jesus Christ as undershepherd of the Flock at Zion Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Detroit Michigan. He has served as Zion’s Pastor for 15 years. Previously he served Zion Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Cleghorn, Wisconsin; and St. Paul Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Modena, Wisconsin.
Fr. Braden holds an A.A., a B.A. (Concordia Ann Arbor), an M.S. (Eastern Michigan University), and an M.Div. and S.T.M. (Concordia Theological Seminary). He is an adjunct member of the faculty of Concordia Theological Seminary, having taught Old Testament Bible in 2003 and 2004, and Biblical Greek online for the last 16 years. He has taught as a visiting professor at Concordia University Ann Arbor, and served for many years as an adjunct member of the faculty at Washtenaw Community College in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Fr. Braden serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Concordia University System. He also serves on the Board of Gottesdienst, and is a Departmental Editor, having authored the Taking Pains column in every issue since 2009. He periodically participates in Gottesdienst regional conferences, podcasts and blog posts. He serves as host and a frequent presenter at the annual St. Michael Liturgical Conference, held at Zion Detroit each year in September. His interests lie in the conduct of the Divine Service, and the historical development of the ceremony, the rite, and the rubrics of the Western Mass.
Fr. Braden is bilingual, and has taught theology in Venezuela, Colombia, Bolivia, Argentina, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Spain. He has served as an International Fellow for the Luther Academy.
Fr. Braden has lived in several different states and countries. He currently resides in Dearborn, Michigan, where is renovating his third mid-century bungalow. He has been married to his wife Patty, a library director, for 44 years. His daughter Sarah is a professional librarian in Pennsylvania. His son-in-law Mitchell is completing his PhD in microbiology at the University of Pittsburgh.
