Credo and Philosophy for Lutheran Preschools

We believe that effective guidance and teaching at the preschool level must involve a total approach to the total child. Our approach to the child is an approach of love as we give guidance in the dimensions of intellectual, emotional, social, physical and spiritual growth.

We believe the child should develop a close relationship with God the Father who created each individual, with God the Son who made heaven possible through his death and resurrection, and God the Holy Spirit who nurtures and keeps the faith in his children.

We believe that the child should be exposed to a broad range of experiences through an active participation in the learning process.

We believe God’s world becomes an exciting discovery of the Creator’s resources through activities involving the five senses.

We believe that a child should make a gradual adjustment from home to school and learn to cope with life at a level of maturity which involves sharing and caring interaction.

We believe the goals one chooses, the atmosphere created, the relationships cultivated, all grow out of beliefs and convictions the teacher brings to the teaching task.

Basic Objectives of a Lutheran Preschool

A primary goal for the Lutheran preschool is that, by the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit working through God’s Word each child will believe in Jesus as his or her Savior. The children will come to know Jesus as their very special friend, who will never leave them nor forsake them as they are guided to an understanding of themselves and the world. (Spiritual)

With this as its primary goal, the Lutheran preschool has the following specific objectives:

1. To help the child live confidently as a beautiful creation of God by  encouraging him/her to develop a positive self-awareness. (Emotional)

2. To provide appropriate experience to promote exploration, creativity, communication and concept development. (Intellectual)

3. To develop large and small muscle coordination, sensory perception and good health and safety habits. (Physical)

4. To involve the child in a sharing and caring environment in which relationships with others are strengthened through interaction and through practice of self-control. (Social)
